Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
McDonalds Crew Member: I was just a McDonalds employee. I started out at the fry cook position and then I worked my way through the different processes so I went from the fry cook to cooking the burgers on the grill. Then I went to the assembly lien and then I went to the drive-through window and then moved to the register inside the store.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
McDonalds Crew Member: The work environment? It was really fast paced. I know that because lots of people like McDonalds so you got to be able to stay on your toes and cook lots of burgers or fry lots of fries. Other than that, it was really positive. The managers, they were older so they were on top of their job. They were responsible. They were always making sure you were staying on top of what you were doing and if you were slacking off, they would encourage you and make sure you were doing what you were supposed to be doing.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
McDonalds Crew Member: I walked in to McDonalds. I introduced myself and said that I was looking for an position. They had me sit down. I filled out an application and then they had a manager come. It was actually like a national, they were hiring for that day so they specifically picked that day to hire people, so it wasn’t just on a random whim where I came in and was trying to get hired. I knew about that they were going to be hiring already. I went in, I dressed business casual so I wore a nice button-up top. I wore some dress pants with dress shoes, and then the manager sat down with me and just asked me general questions about — I was 16 at the time — so how I was doing in high school, what kind of recreation sports I was doing, what did I like to do outside, and then talked to me about the process at McDonalds and what they were looking for. Then essentially I got hired.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
McDonalds Crew Member: I would say just show up on time, be professional, be respectful, listen to what the managers have to say, be willing to open up to new things such as frying, cooking, if you’ve never done anything like that before. It’s a really good place to get some basic experience on what it’s like to work for a corporation and what they expect out of you.
