Job Description and Duties
The position of team leader serves as a motivational role at Burger King locations. The fast food restaurant chain hires individuals to fill team leader jobs primarily to supervise entry-level staffs, create and coordinate shift schedules, hire and train new employees, and enforce company policies and procedures. Additional job duties usually include carrying out team member responsibilities, such as greeting customers, preparing foods, tracking inventory, cleaning work stations and dining areas, and maintaining efficiency of operations.
Salary and Compensation
Upon hire, Burger King team leaders typically make hourly wages between $7.00 and $9.00. Team leaders may move into higher pay scales over time and receive introductory job benefits of flexible scheduling options, complimentary uniforms, and meal discounts. Some locations may provide free meals, although it varies by franchise. 401(k) retirement plans, paid time off, and healthcare options may also be readily available at certain franchised locations. The average team leader works a near full-time or traditional full-time schedule.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Burger King Team Leader: My job title is a team leader, so I’m kind of a boss in a way. I’m not quite a manager, but if we have new people, I train them. I have manager duties, such as assistant manager work and stuff like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Burger King Team Leader: The work environment is great. I love the crew that I work with. Everybody’s nice. We get along – we actually work as a team. There are a few problems here and there, but usually once people get in, they realize you have to work together and get along with everybody you work with.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Burger King Team Leader: Honestly, being a team leader because I actually have some kind of authority. I like having authority; I don’t like being necessarily being told what to do. I like telling people what to do, in a nice way, though. I’m not mean about it.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Burger King Team Leader: A typical day there is actually kind of crazy because we get pretty busy. So when you’re busy and the manager is busy, it’s kind of up to you to tell the crew that we need this, we need that. We have to get our times and stuff like that. So it gets kind of crazy, but it’s fun in the same sense.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Burger King Team Leader: It’s pretty simple; it’s just a basic application. You put your name, your references, and work history. The interview process… it’s just real simple. They come in, ask you basic questions, and you get hired based on the answers and your personality. You just come in, we hand you an application, and we call you if we’re interested.
Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the job interview?
Burger King Team Leader: Nothing too dressy because it is fast food. Just casual clothes – you don’t want to look too dressed up, but you don’t want to look bummy either. Nice pants, dress shirt, jacket, whatever.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Burger King Team Leader: During my interview, the one question that stood out to me was “How do you work as a team? Are you a good team participant or do you work by yourself?” In fast food, you have to work as a team, so that was probably the one that stood out to me.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Burger King Team Leader: Basically, if you’re looking for a job with Burger King, you have to be nice, you have to be a people person, you can’t yell at your customers, you have to be willing to work with your other team members, and if the veterans tell you to do something, make sure you do it as you’re told because it’s mostly the right way. Don’t try to let a new person frighten you because you’ll be trained wrong.
Interviewer: What qualities do you look for in an applicant?
Burger King Team Leader: Basically, personality. If you can make good eye contact, then I know you can make eye contact with a customer. If you’re more outspoken, then you can be more confident when talking to someone. Attitude is a big one. You have to have a positive attitude. You can usually tell if somebody is trying to talk their way through the interview, or if they’re actually being truthful with what they’re saying. So, that’s a good one, too.
